Seven Inches Caps the Whole Crown
A 7x7 is the widest closure made, seven inches of lace each way, wide enough that it stops behaving like a part strip and takes over the entire crown. You sew it across the top of your cornrowed tracks and it seals everything from the front hairline back through the parting zone, so the wefts underneath only carry the back of your head. Nothing about the top is left to blend except the one seam where the lace meets those wefts.

The Back Has to Earn the Top
Cap this much crown and the hair behind it has to match the weight, or a full top rides over a thin back and the whole install tips off balance. Load your tracks dense in the same #1 body wave so the fullness reaches beyond where the lace stops, and the crown and the nape read as one thickness. That is the trade a 7x7 asks for: the wide lace buys parting freedom up front, and it puts the burden on the back to keep pace.

A Longer Border Wants the Finest Lace
A seven-inch square runs more perimeter than any smaller closure, a longer stretch of edge meeting your leave-out the whole way around. That much boundary only disappears when the lace is sheer enough to melt along all of it, and that thinness is exactly what HD grade buys you as the finest knotted mesh made. Notch the edge in a broken line rather than a blunt cut, and even the widest closure drops into your own hairline instead of framing a square.

One Flat Tone Reads Clean Across the Span
The wider the lace, the more scalp-area shows at the part, and the more room a warm undertone would have to surface somewhere across it. A flat #1 never gives it the opening. Cool true black holds even from one side of the seven inches to the other, so the open crown stays one uniform plane wherever you drop the part.

Choose the Length That Finishes Flush
Both cuts, 16" and 18", are set to hang level with your body wave wefts instead of stopping short above them. Match the closure to the length you have installed and the full seven-inch crown flows straight down into the bundles as a single sheet, with no shelf where the closure ends.

Plan the Takedown Around Your Regrowth
Because a 7x7 sits over this much scalp, the reset asks for more room than a narrow closure. Every few weeks you cut the thread, free the braids, brush out the shed the cornrows held, and re-lay the whole sheet once new growth gives the lace somewhere to sit. Space those resets further apart than a small closure needs, since there is simply more of your own hair coming in underneath it.
